Psycho Spaghetti - A Review
Aisling Dennis
Psycho Spaghetti was definitely worth going to see. The show was aimed at TY students, and it was funny because it was relatable to everyone, so everyone could enjoy it.
The comedian, Ger Carey, did impressions of teachers and the different types of people you meet in secondary school. He put everything you go through as a teenager in a funny perspective in a very lighthearted manner, and said things that people think, but never really say out loud. He acted out situations on his own that everyone goes through as a teenager, like day-dreaming in maths class and then being asked a question by the teacher, and not having a clue what the answer is, or being really sarcastic with your parents, and he even did a parody of the type of music that most teenagers listen to. The impressions Ger did were very good and true, and were funny even to the people that he was impersonating, so he didn't offend anyone. Even the teachers that were there found it funny, because they could look back to when they were at school and they come across the situations he was acting out everyday.
Overall, it was a brilliant show and everyone came out of the theatre with smiles on their faces, and we still quote it in school often. I would love to see it again.

Andrea Walsh reported on this visit.
On Tuesday, March 8th, both Transition Year classes, St. Casilda and St. Clare departed on our trip to the Irish Film Institute to see the movie ‘The Social Network‘. We were accompanied by Ms. Cremin and Ms. Dillon. We met at the I.F.I. In Temple Bar at 10 a.m.
"The Social Network" tells the story of how Mark Zuckerberg came to invent ‘Facebook’ when he was just 19 years old and how he came to be the youngest billionaire in the world today. We also see in this film how he was sued by people who accused him of their idea of ‘Facebook’, as well as his best friend who accused him of trying to force him out of the company.
I think this movie was interesting, especially to teenagers as they can see the story behind the social network that most of use everyday.

DATs Test, Tuesday 3 May
The Differential Aptitude Tests (DATs) are designed for use in educational and vocational guidance and are used by school guidance counsellors, personnel officers, psychologists and all persons concerned with assessing the intellectual characteristics and educational or vocational aptitudes of adolescents.

The rationale behind the Differential Aptitude Tests is that since different kinds of abilities are useful in different jobs and in different school subjects, a range of evaluations or tests giving measures of several abilities is likely to be more useful than a test giving a single general ability score. There are eight subtests in the DATS: Verbal Reasoning, Numerical Ability, Abstract Reasoning, Space Relations, Mechanical Reasoning, Clerical Speed and Accuracy, Spelling, and Language Usage.

Scores can be used to produce a profile showing a pupil's strengths and weaknesses. The results of these tests together with interest inventories are helpful in making careers and course choices in the future.
The results of these tests are confidential and will only be seen and used for Guidance purposes by Ms. Cremen.
The cost of the testing is E5, this covers the answers booklets and correction which is carried out in the Education Research Centre, Drumcondra.
