Can-linn, featuring a St. Mary's past pupil, Kasey Smith, has been announced as the winning act to represent Ireland at the 59th Eurovision Song Contest in Copenhagen, Denmark this May.
They battled it out on the Late Late Show against four other finalists, topping the vote which was a combination of 50% public TV-vote and 50% jury vote.
The winning song, Heartbeat, was written by a team of Irish and Swedish songwriters including mentor Hazel Kaneswaran, an Irish singer/songwriter who sang with Dove in 1996.
Can-linn is a collaborative music act featuring traditional Irish instruments.
After the result Kasey Smith said: ‘I'm so delighted! When I first heard the song I knew it was too good to pass down. I heard it and I got butterflies in my stomach."
It was a fantastic performance by Kasey, and we wish her and Can-linn the very best of luck in May!
