Fingal County Students Enterprise Awards
Two Transition Year Mini Companies qualified for the Fingal County Students Enterprise Awards in the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Blanchardstown, Thursday 13 March 2014. The Awards are part of the National Students Enterprise Awards and the girls are competing in the senior category. If they win they will represent Fingal at the National Student Enterprise Awards in Croke Park.
The girls have been working on their mini-companies since September, learning about the world of business in setting up their own enterprises. The first is "Quote-it" by Gillian Hogan, Sarah Duggan, Nadine McDonnell, Rebecca Hand and Emily Murrin. They make unique canvases with personalised pictures and quotes for people of all ages. The second is "Bow-Kays" by Lana May Fleming, Ciara Barron, Rachel Morrissey, Amy Delamere and Shannon Matthews. They sell personalised, up-cycled bows. Both companies have been successfully in creating, marketing and selling their products. On the day of the Fingal Awards, the teams started early, meeting at the school at 7.30 am. The teams, accompanied by Ms. Crimmins, travelled by taxi to Blanchardstown and set up their displays to be ready by 9. The judging begans at 9 am and lasted to about 11.30 am. Lunch followed and there was a final review of the judges' decisions before the Awards began at 1 pm. Despite performing very well and the judges showing considerable interest, neither Mini Company qualified for the final. Nevertheless, it was a fine performance with a lot of hard work put in. Well done girls and Ms. Crimmins. |
