St. Mary's Science Week 2023
Monday 27th February - Friday 3rd March
Monday 27th February - Friday 3rd March
Science Week is a week long event held in Ireland each year to celebrate science in our everyday lives. The nationwide Science Week took place in November, with events being held across the country, sponsered by Science Foundation Ireland. In St. Mary's we have decided to hold our Science Week at a different time as November overlapped with many other events in the school and we wanted to give Science Week the full focus. We have a week packed full of events planned for each day as well as activities taking place across the whole week.
Currrent Chemistry Investigators Workshop
On Monday 27th February, the Fifth and Sixth Year Chemistry classes will be taking part in a Chemistry Workshop run by researchers from Trinity College Dublin, with funding from Science Foundation Ireland. The workshop will be focused on electrochemistry (chemical reactions using electricity) and energy storage (battery design). The researchers will bring in their own equipment for the girls to use and will be a fantastic opportunity for the students to talk to actual scientific researchers. The workshop is hands-on and will help the girls to understand one of the more difficult topics on the curriculum in a exciting way. More information can be found here.
