Transition Year Physical Education
Self Defence Programme
As part of the Transition Year Physical Education programme, Transition Year students complete a course of Indonesian Silat Self Defence Classes in the school with guru Liam McDonald

Liam McDonald began teaching Indonesian Silat, Self Defence and Personal Security in 1985.  Since then, he has received a number of titles  including Master Degree in Silat in 2003, UK Martial Arts Wall of Fame Award in 2004 and is recognised by the Indonesian Ambassador for promoting Martial Arts in Ireland.

Silat refers to the Self Defence Applications of Body Movement.  It is a blend of Martial Arts, Yoga and Dance using various aspects of these disciplines to develop the natural strengths and flexibilities in each student.

Dublin School of Judo
In addition to the self defence classes held in school, the Transition Years also attend a full day Judo Workshop in the Dublin School of Judo in Garristown, usually in March or April.
