Stephen Peers, Development Officer for the President's Award known as An Gaisce, began proceedings for this year's award when he spoke to Transition Year students on Wednesday 23 October. He spoke of St. Mary's long and successful association with the award. We were a pilot school for both Transition Year and the President's Award when both were introduced in the same year.
The Award is divided into Bronze, Silver and Gold. Students start with the Bronze in Transition Year and many continue to Silver with a few exceptional students achieving Gold. For the Bronze Award, students commit to four levels of activity involving Community Involvement, Sport/Physical Recreation, Personal Development/Skills and an Adventure Journey. This year we are hoping that our Adventure Journey in Transition Year will revolve around a visit to the Achill islands.
