Leinster Semi Final
1 March 2017
St. Mary's had a terrific win in the Leinster Under 19 Gaelic Football Semi Final over Gaelcholaiste Carlow in the Coast Park on Wednesday 1 March. It was a nail biting game which saw both sides ahead at different times.
St. Mary's started the game very well and were soon three points ahead and despite strong play from St. Mary's, Carlow edged back into the game and were ahead at half time. Mr. Fennell and Mr. Nolan were happy with the performance as Mary's had been playing into a strong wind.
Carlow pushed ahead numerous times in the second half but each time St. Mary's showed great determination and spirit and fought back
Toward the later stages, Mary's scored some fine points which were well acknowledged by the supporting First Years.
A terrific goal near the end put Mary's two points ahead and then Carlow pulled a point back. There was terrific defending at both ends and in the end St. Mary's won by the single point 4-9 to 4-8.
Well done to the coaches Mr. Fennell and Mr. Nolan and well done to all the players on a fantastic performance. Aine Ryan produced a great display in goal and there were strong perfomances by Danielle O' Leary, Lauren Waters, Rachel Dipeolu, Lynn Byrne, Jessica Carroll, Niamh Cummins and Alex Nestor.
