Great win for the U16 Basketball Team against St. Mary's Holy Faith, Killester on Friday 11 October 2013. Initially, it was proving to be a difficult game with many scores at both ends but with no team dominating. By half time, the teams were level at 17 apiece. We were behind on a good few occasions in the third and fourth quarters but a great final rally saw us come out deserved winners. Ellen Keegan was judged to be the Most Valuable Player while Nadine McDonnell also had a great game. Well done to all the team on a great overall performance. Well done to the coaches also - Mr. Burke and Mr. Fennell. Under 16 Basketball, Division 2,

Next match for the Under 16 Division 2 team away to Our Lady's, Drogheda on Monday 25 November at 12 Noon. Under 16 Division 2 Quarter Final
Thursday 9 January, Away to St. Dominic's Cabra Coach Mr. Burke Leaving at 12.30 pm St Mary’s Secondary Under 16 Basketball Division Two Team finished off a fine season by reaching the Quarter Finals of the Dublin Championship. They were narrowly defeated 25-17 by an excellent St Dominic’s side in Cabra. St Mary’s began the game in fine fashion, opening a 3 basket lead early on. However, the opposition used their extra advantage on the subs bench well, and both sides traded points up to half time. St Dominic’s pulled away in the final quarter to emerge victorious. Coaches Mr Burke and Ms Mealey praised all involved in the team, especially as the Mary’s girls put in a tremendous effort given that the team had such a small number of subs through the year. The coaches also praised the girls for reaching this stage of the tournament, especially as many of the team had not played basketball previously. The coaches look forward to seeing all the players involved participating again next year, where hopefully they will prove to be even more successful. |
